Description

This is the only existing photograph of the model Frank Frazetta used for his lovely fox drawing, seen on various material published by Russ Cochran. The animal was one of several who answered a classified newspaper advertisement placed by the artist in the mid-70s. Frazetta said he selected the fox for its striking, almost human features and "far-away eyes"

The picture was taken (by neighbor Harry Nussberg) outside Frazetta's studio during the first (of two) all day modeling sessions. Nussberg had earlier warned Frazetta to carefully watch the animal, as Nussberg feared the fox might entrance humans with a "hypno-stare". The fox posed for three pictures in all (including a standing pose, arm in arm with Frazetta). The artist signed the other two photographs and the fox took them into the woods. Years later, the same animal modeled for artist Arthur Suydam.
