After World War II, Kirby finished his tour of duty in the service and returned to civilian life in New York City.

Ini 1947, he attempted to break into the newspaper comic strip field, which was far more respected than comic books, and draw a syndicated newspaper strip.

The art here is directly from Kirby�s 1947 demo strip, which was not accepted for syndication.

But Kirby needed to work, so he returned to comics. He and Simon created the first romance/noir comics. And in 1954 this art was used for a romance title.

This page is extraordinary � and done by the hand of the most important artist in the history of comics.
