Encre de Chine, lavis bleu et retouches de gouache blanche pour la planche 22 de cet album, 4ème album de la série, publié en 1956 aux éditions Dupuis.
Prépubliée dans le journal Spirou en 1955.

La Pierre de Lune est le seul album de Peyo dont les planches furent réalisées à l’encre de Chine et au lavis bleu. Une partie seulement des planches de cet album furent réalisées de la sorte – sans que l’on sache exactement combien – augmentant encore la rareté de ces oeuvres graphiquement si belles et si rares dans une oeuvre entièrement dominée par le noir et blanc.
La Pierre de Lune est considéré par de nombreux amateurs et professionnels comme l’album marquant le passage dans la maturité pour cette série. Peyo lui-même considérait Le Châtiment de Basenhau et Le Maître de
Roucybeuf comme des erreurs de jeunesse. Le Lutin du Bois aux Roches est encore un album à part, charnière, qui voit la naissance de Pirlouit et cherche ses marques dans un Moyen-Âge encore relativement réaliste, peu empreint de fantastique. Le duo Johan et Pirlouit prend toute son ampleur dans ce 4ème album La Pierre de Lune, l’humour trouve alors son envol et le merveilleux s’installe réellement pour la première fois dans cette série. Le basculement est flagrant, la construction du récit est parfaite, même le style graphique de Peyo gagne en maturité et en perfection.
La planche ici présentée est l’une des plus belles de l’album, alliant humour, bravoure ou encore duel à l’épée dans une scène de nuit aux contrastes superbes, renforcés par la présence du lavis. Sont représentés Johan, Pirlouit, l’enchanteur Homnibus ainsi que les deux acolytes de Boustroux.

The Moonstone is Peyo’s only album in which the strips used Chinese ink and blue ink-wash. Only some of the strips in this album were illustrated like this, thereby increasing the rarity of these works in terms of the illustrations, which were so rare and beautiful in a work
dominated by black and white. The Moonstone is considered by many fans and professionals alike to be the album which marked the maturity of this series. The duo of Johan and Peewit is truly thrust to the fore in this 4th album, The Moonstone, with the level of humour reaching new heights and the mystery playing a key role and forming the true basis for this series. The change is clear, the construction of the storyline is perfect, and even Peyo’s illustrative style gains in maturity and perfection.
