DescriptionI’ve continued to be fascinated by the Silver Age, and have been looking for a great Thor splash. I saw this piece once before, but I was working on something big and didn’t want to bury myself too deep. So, I committed to myself that if the chance ever came up again, I wouldn’t let it pass me by. As a result, I was lucky enough to be the high bidder on the Kirby/Stone splash to JIM 110. There were two great Journey into Mystery splashes in this auction. I was a bidder on #88, but in truth, I wasn’t that disappointed. I really love this piece. The image of Thor is huge, Stone inks rock, and it does exactly what a splash should do. It leaps out and screams “turn the page and jump into fun!”Social/Sharing |

An absolute classic. A JIM Thor splash has to be, IMO, one of the finest examples of silver age art

Gus Fring said "Never make the same mistake twice." You didn't! This would have haunted you if you had to see it in someone else's gallery. Congrats on making sure that didn't happen!

What a great time to be a part of CAF and part of this great hobby. The past few weeks have seen a flurry of activity and the posting of some incredible pieces of art. Certainly looks like a lot of people are celebrating Christmas early this year! This amazing Kirby/Stone splash would put a smile on ANYONE'S face! Congrats Ron! Happy Holidays to you and yours!

Ron, it is no secret that I'm really loving what you are doing with your collection. Your (relatively recent) focus on top notch vintage pieces and well established collection of exceptional modern pieces has catapulted your CAF page to one of the most visited on the site. And, almost always, I love your descriptions. But "Stone inks rock" is something that I have to wonder how it made it onto the page. Now, please don't change it because otherwise all of CAF will think I'm delusional (which they may think already). Congratulations on another gem -- stone, rock or otherwise -- my friend!

One can hear the "Chunk" of Uru hammer touching masonry, with just a glance at this piece. Awesome!

Very cool page. Interesting to note the 'Powerfully Inked"comment in the credits box as it is dead on. While everyone has an opinion on who inked the King the best, when you see a page like this -- it doesn't matter, does it? This is indeed Powerful stuff - it is excellent "statement" Kirby with just...bulletproof inking by Chic.

Love this Kirby splash! His work on Thor was always so epic and so iconic that I'm in awe of pieces like this one. But then, I love everything in your impressive collection.

Kirby always seemed to put a little extra thought into how this character would use his hammer in "regular" moments when he wasn't smashing skulls with it.
Beautifully drawn page.

Verily, this splash takes a big sign and nails it to the largest oak out there screaming, "This is the Marvel Age of Comics!!!!"
