Description

I picked this one up from the artist at the Birmingham convention in Feb 1999. It's from a Strontium Dogs serial written by Garth Ennis in his pre-Vertigo days.

Both Steve Pugh and John McCrea had art for sale. I had to decide between this and a cool Demon splash by McCrea. I wanted to get both, but didn't have enough money. So for about 20 minutes or so, I was thinking it over, glancing back and forth between the two peces. I finally decided on the Pugh page, since you don't often see 2000 AD art available outside of the UK. So I figured I shouldn't pass up the opportunity to pick this one up.

In response to all this, Pugh wrote the following inscription on the bottom of the page: "For Ben! Best wishes from Steve Pugh (I win!)" Yep, Steve Pugh is certainly gracious in victory!

Wow, I really liked Steve's pencils on Animal Man back in the day. It's absolutely cool to see his previous painted art. Great one!
