Description

I picked this up November 1998 at a comic convention in London. The artist, Simon B. Davis, had a stack of his painted artwork from 2000 AD for sale. Incredibly, they were only £20 each. I definitely had to pick up one, because they looked fantastic.

This is from a story featuring B.L.A.I.R. 1, "Britain's first bionic Prime Minister." Obviously it was a satire on Tony Blair, who seems to lend himself to these sorts of things. Back in 1998, the Millenium Dome was this gigantic exhibition hall that was being built for the year 2000 celebrations. It was widely regarded by the British public as something of a lead balloon, running both over-budget and behind schedule. 2000 AD took the opportunity to skewer the whole thing with their usual scathing wit.
