DescriptionThis 1979 Sci-Fi themed painting dates from very early in artist John Totleben's professional career and it is likely only his third published work (proceeded by a piece in the February 1979 Heavy Metal and work in the 1980 Kitchen Sink comic 50's Funnies #1). Signed and dated 4/9/1979 (at lower right) it would have been created when Totleben was just 21 years old and years before he took on the reigns of Swamp Thing with writer Alan Moore. His fluid figuration and heavy attention to detail are apparent here, as is his quirk visual sense of humor with tiny beaked aliens consuming the remains of a mummified space traveler. Totleben's work is heavily collected and it is very unusual for a piece of this quality and vintage to become available. This art is executed in Pelikan colored inks on illustration board. The image size is a nice 20" x 24".Social/Sharing |
