DescriptionThis piece is really special. It has been a long time coming. To me, Chris Brunner is one of those artists that deserves more exposure. He has worked on mainstream as well as creator owned books. I discovered his work when he did an arc on Batman: LOTDK before the series ended. HIs work had energy and I really responded to it. I looked him up here on CAF and saw a few of his pieces owned by some of his co-worker-friends and a few collectors. I connected with him on Devientart but his postings were sporatic, at best. Here and there I would reply to the few notes or questions about movies and his art that he posted. Again, his replies weren't consistant. I really wanted to see his vision of Freeze but he didn't do commissions. Last year, he mentioned that he would be at Heroes (one of the few shows that he attends) and if I was interested in getting a sketch, to stop by and make a request. Not being able to attend, I reached out to the one and only Dr. Fantastic (and fellow GCAer) for help. He knew exactly who Chris was and was on the case. He stopped by and put my name on his list. Unfortunately, Chris wasn't able to finish it and wanted to take it home and get the job done. Since then, Chris and I emailed a little bit about the piece but I had to be patient until he had time away from school to finish it. He wrote:"Luckily, your friend John caught me right after I'd read a bunch of Gotham Central, so the buzz from that carried over to your piece." My patience paid off. A few weeks ago, while on vacation, I received a text from the good dr. that my piece was done and heading my way. Once I got back, I was weeding through my emails at work when I came across a note from Chris. (I hope he's ok with me posting this) "...Wow, I apologize for taking so long, but I finally finished your Doctor Freeze, er wait, Mr Freeze? I think Dr. would be better ;p ...What took so long? School has definitely been kicking my ass, but this was also an intimidating commission. Mediocre bonus for you- I'll also be sending the aborted first crack I took at it during HeroesCon. The other artists I was sharing a booth with bet me that I couldn't finish it by the end of the day, so I stupidly rushed, got 3/4 of the way finished and it looked like dook. The dook version has been hanging next to my desk giving me bad juju's for awhile now, and sadly it's easier to start a new thing than try to fix a problem thing. Luckily, the homework I had this weekend was scarier, so your commission ended up being my form of procrastination. I know, all ridiculous. But, hopefully it's an illustration of why it's better to let me sweat over things for awhile than bang it out. Again, I'm sincerely sorry for sitting on Mr Freeze for so long, and really appreciate your patience. Hope this finds you well, take care. Thanks! Chris B" I can't thank Chris enough for his persistence on this piece as well as his vision. Growing up, I was a fan (like many) of the animated show "The Adventures Of Batman." One of my favorite episodes was (surprise, surprise) "The Cool, Cruel Mr. Freeze." I can't think of a better title for this piece. If you have the opportunity, search out his work on Batman: LOTDK, Hellblazers and Loose Ends. I also want to thank Dr. Fantastic for taking care of my request in person and staying in touch during the process. You rock the party that rocks the party, my friend. Social/Sharing |

Such a great vibe going with this piece. Freeze has that semi-disheveled, anti-social affect going for him in this rendition, which makes such perfect sense considering his background and state of mind. What a triumph!

Great work! I had the pleasure of meeting Chris here in Albuquerque last year, and picking up a CannonBall piece he did. Seems like a great guy.
