Description

This has a '60s Playboy feel, as far as the artist's choices of figure type, hair style, and pose. I find this appealing.

I'm planning to get married again this year, so I'll definitely be buying less art in 2013. Here's the only piece I've been able to acquire so far in this Year Of The Snake. :-)

I store my Joan Pelaez graphite illustrations like this one in an 11 x 14 Itoya folder. It's a thrill to me to watch this sub-collection grow. I'm up to 7 examples now, and I hope more additions will follow.

Joan's lush renderings have a luminous quality in person that doesn't always come across in these scans. In the beginning, I was interested almost exclusively in his fantasy renderings of mermaids. But I love his drawing so much now that subject matter has become a secondary consideration.

Fairy art has never interested me very much, but I'm in quiet awe of the way Joan portrays and renders these, with exquisite style and technique.
