Esteban Maroto - Flash Gordon

For years now, I have raved about the beauty and artistry of the Alex Raymond tribute/homage that Esteban Maroto did for the comic magazine, Heritage vol.1 #1b.

Those of you who know me know of my fondness for the b&w Buster Crabbe flash gordon serials. After seeing all the cartoons on weekends growing up, I would watch the Flash Gordon episodes or the b&w Sherlock Holmes (basil rathbone and nigel bruce) movies.

After first seeing the story in the Heritage comic mag, I was fortunate to commission Esteban (through Tom Horvitz) to do a Flash Gordon piece for me back in 2003. Never did I dare to dream that one day the Heritage story art would find it's way to me!

So it is with great pleasure that I share with you this artistic masterpiece! This is the original art, done entirely in pencil.
