Featured Artist — Krenkel, Roy

Krenkel is a true artist's artist, who is now recognized as having a huge impact on fantasy art in the twentieth century. For years he was all but forgotten, but he now seems to be having a moment. Krenkel heavily influenced, and contributed to, Frazetta's work -- and I find a good pen and ink Krenkel piece almost as mesmerizing as Frazetta. I also think of Krenkel as the bridge between fantasy artists of a generation earlier (like J. Allen St. John, who heavily influenced Krenkel) and fantasy artists of the present (like Wrightson). There is unbelievable movement in Krenkel's work -- the simplicity of his lines mask a master's hand.
