MARK A. NELSON
Mark A. Nelson was a pioneer comic artist at the dawn of the 1980s b&w era. He drew 16 pages of a story called SILVERWING, a pulp noir tale featuring animals as the main characters, about 20 years before BLACKSAD. SILVERWING was a backup story in Chris Ecker's EB'NN THE RAVEN comic book published by Now Comics. This led to Mark being brought on to pencil and ink the groundbreaking ALIENS comic series for Dark Horse. Mark was a full-time college professor for three decades starting at Northern Illinois University where I studied illustration with him. His last school was Savannah College of Art and Design and he left there at the end of May, 2015. Mark is currently working on two major projects, THUNDER HUNTERS, a four-issue epic of life on a dinosaur planet, coming in June 2016 from Titan Books, and DENIZENS OF Innsmouth, an illustrated tour through the fishy town of H.P. Lovecraft's imagination. This book is slotted for an April 2016 release. In addition, I am planning to publish an art book featuring Mark's series, The Broken Angels, sometime in 2017.
