Japanese animation studio cels and drawings
In the 1980's, I began to read the English-language adaptations of Japanese manga: Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaa, Masamune Shirow's Appleseed, Kenichi Sonoda's Gunsmith Cats, and many of the action, adventure, and science fiction manga. As the manga market in the US expanded, I picked up some humor and comedy titles like Rumiko Takahashi's Ranma 1/2 and Kosuke Fujishima's Oh My Goddess!. I found the Hayao Miyazaki film Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind in a laser disc rental store in San Francisco. I had an idea of the story from the manga and loved the animated version.
