Studio Gainax: Nadia: the Secret of Blue Water
Gainax produced the television series Nadia: the Secret of Blue Water and it debuted in 1990. Hayao Miyazaki did some early work on the show. One aspect was including Captain Nemo from the Jules Verne novels. Nadia director Hideaki Anno would gain worldwide fame with his next television series Neon Genesis Evangelion. Yoshiyuki Sadamoto was character designer. The protagonist is the orphan teen girl Nadia working as a circus acrobat. She becomes involved with the young French inventor Jean who's flying machine leaves them adrift at sea. Captain Nemo and his submarine Nautilus comes into the picture.
In episode 35 The Secret of Blue Water, Nadia reveals her true self to her friends and falls off a tall structure. She wakes up safely on the ground and her friends relate how it happened. They express their love for the girl despite her revelation. Nadia is able to read the alien language on the wall plague and learns something of her true origin.
