Simon (Si) VANDERLAAN
Simon Vanderlaan (1904-1986) was a listed artist and illustrator, known especially for his "pin up" artworks which appeared on advertising posters and calendars etc. Vanderlaan was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He worked at the Art Institute of Chicago in the mid-1930s. From 1940 to 1945 he worked for Disney. After WWII, he taught art at Woodbury College in Southern California. Later, Vanderlaan became a self-employed advertising illustrator in Los Angeles, California. Vanderlaan was a very private man, who did not like to sell his paintings. After he died in 1986, all his remaining works were kept in storage by his family until being offered for sale recently.
