In the run-up to the 2004 San Diego Comic-Con, I was feeling bored, sort of the same-old, same-old. I'd been to over 15 of them and I wasn't enjoying myself the way I had in the past, disheartened that so little of the con seemed to be about the comics anymore. I decided to start a sketchbook to revitalize my interest in the con. I'd seen "theme" sketchbooks floating around artist's alley in the past, and decided that a Starman book, based around characters appearing in Robinson's Starman run, might be just the thing. Boy was it ever! Now I look forward to the con each year, spending most of the run-up to the con poring over the guest list and artist alley rolls, deciding who's work goes into the book next. They say every picture tells a story, and I'll be sharing these stories as we go along. I hope you enjoy these sketches as much as I've enjoyed getting them and meeting the artists who produced them!
