Spider-man is a figure of sentimentality and nostalgia to my generation and the generation before me. But Spider-man betrayed his original premise – a super hero with super problems AND with mundane real-life problems. In my drawings, I cannibalize Spider-man’s iconography, re-envisioning him in an equally fantastical but totally absurd context. His impotence in the face of disease and real life problems is funny, while our same impotence is not. He is the every-man and the artist, and he has to make sense of the world around him.
