Peter Pontiac, (b. 28/4/1951, The Netherlands) a self-taught artist who started his career in comics in the mid-70s, was influenced by the underground comix movement as a whole, and by R. Crumb in particular. Pontiac published his work in several magazines, including Tante Leny, Hitweek, Aloha, Gummi and Modern Papier in Holland, El Vibora in Spain, and Anarchy Comix and Mondo Snarfo in the US. In Holland, he also illustrated great events in rock & roll history for the music magazines Music Express and Oor. It took until 1990 before he found a concept and an editor (Oog en Blik) to publish his complete oeuvre: 'The Pontiac Review'. Seven albums have been published, including the trilogy 'Sex & Drugs & Rock 'n' Roll'. Prior to this collection, his album 'Requiem Fortissimo' was published by Casterman. In 1997 he won the Stripschapprijs for his entire oeuvre and in that same year, he self-published the comic book 'Lost in the Lowlands'. In the late 1990s, Pontiac was intensively busy with his biographic all illustrated novel 'Kraut'. The book was published in 2000 by Podium. In 2014 he draw the cover for Glenn Bray's comic art book 'The Blighted Eye'. Personally one of my favorite comic artists! Peter passed away on January 20th 2015. The book 'STYX' was published posthumously in 2016.
