Anyone who has visited my CAF between 2019 and 2020 is well aware that my love for Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman's Venom run continues to grow. Since taking over the series in 2018 Donny Cates has made the characters of Venom and Eddie Brock incredibly interesting to me. The depth and melancholy Cates have brought to the character has endeared the character to me in a way I never thought possible. Throughout the run the exploration of Eddie Brock and the Symbiote has been a terrific expansion of the mythology, deftly weaving it into the history of the Marvel Universe and expanding it into many new corners. Cates has asked us questions that the Eddie and fans have not even thought to ask, like what is the symbiote's name? How old is it? How many others has it been bonded to BEFORE Spider-Man? And he is setting up some awesome answers. Earlier in 2020 I discovered the awesome art of Gavin Smith. I got on his list not once but twice, Gavin created two amazing commissions for me of Strange Adventures and Scalped. This summer Gavin offered a sketch if you would donate at least $50 to a Black Lives Matter Charity. Which I was thrilled to do. Looking at his style and how well he did with our previous collaborations, I thought he would do an outstanding Venom commission and man did Gavin not disappoint.
