DescriptionWell folks! Whew! I must say I was extremely close to throwing in the towel on this Wolverine commission about a year ago, but with much soul searching & rumination I stuck with it. And I’m here to say that I’m ecstatic that I did folks! Jay Anacleto’s rep Kirk Dilbeck (premium CAF member) had reserved me a date on Jay’s itinerary way back in November 2013 for this very exclusive commission. In between waiting, Jay kept getting new assignments/jobs for Dynamic, DC and Marvel Comics that pushed my commission completion timeframe further back on his schedule. With Jay being a high demand talent I expected some delays to a certain degree. Kirk was very encouraging and told me to hang in there, it will get done. My conceptual idea was exceedingly intricate & complex to say the least, but I knew if done precisely by Jay the undertaking would be a true eternal treasure. Fast-forward 2.75 years and we have arguably the most comprehensive, striking and meticulous rendering of Wolverine I have ever seen bar none! Period! Through my personal familiarity with Jay Anacleto’s diverse artworks, this venture completed August 17, 2016 is undeniably at the top-tier of them all. Having a dentist background and accustomed to working with his hands, any onlooker can easily convey that Jay is the consummate purist when it comes to his passion for his craft. It is for this very basis alone why I had to have a commission of his to include in my CAF gallery & permanent collection. Let’s begin; here we have James ‘Wolverine’ Howlett on a covert mission for the USA government black-ops division in a Vietnamese tropical rain forest in search of American POW’s being detained in a Viet Cong prison camp. Intel has confirmed that these POW’s have been subjected to various methods of torture & cruelty daily in an effort to extract classified information and stratagem to gain an advantage over the American forces. The B-26 Marauder twin-engine airplane was shot out of the sky by an RPG with Wolverine aka ‘Logan’ being the lone survivor. Disoriented by the crash Logan emerges from the planes cabin and slowly wades through the Mekong River under the dense jungle foliage. Sensing the presence of a potentially easy meal, Logan is swiftly attacked by several gigantic crocodiles. Born a mutant with an accelerated healing factor, keen senses and animalistic instincts, a blood-spattered Logan with his face charred & shrapnel still embedded in his body from the plane crash engages in a clash to the death with the apex predators. As we can unmistakably see, the ending for one crocodile wasn’t very pleasant. Wolverine is the best there is at what he does, and what he does isn’t very nice. That one crocodile found this out the hard way and its buddy will get some of the same business from the looks of it. Hahaha! I feel remorseful for those Viet Cong when ‘Wolvie’ stumble on them! I would like to take the time to thank both Jay and Kirk for blessing me with this amazing portrayal of one of most admired superheroes of any comic book era. I will hang on to this artwork for countless years to come for sure. The medium for this Jay Anacleto commissioned artwork is pencil, pen & ink. It is signed & dated, and measures 17” x 11” on a Blue Line Art board. UPDATE: I recently noticed during a random eBay search for more of Jay's artwork that this exact OA was used for a Wolverine #4 Jay Anacleto 'Virgin' Variant Edition cover! This particular issue was released October 2020 by Marvel Comics and in association with Unknown Comic Books and Street Level Hero! I've added a few pics for reference. |
