Moebius The Airtight Garage (Le Garage Hermétique) Ep 36, p 2 Owner: Kevin Koch Comment posted on 2/20/2025

Love the beauty of that first panel. Truly masterful. The words and lettering are just as great and integral. ![]() Speaking of the words and lettering, something I meant to include above - compared to the French originals, the lettering of this first translation (color image) is terrible! It really doesn't integrate well with the art, and in a few places the translation is clunky. On top of that, this first coloring attempt (not done by Moebius) is very disappointing. Anyway, thanks for the comment. |

The Most Beautiful Herb Trimpe Art You Will Ever See! Owner: Roger K. Comment posted on 2/19/2025 Just seeing this one, thanks to your title. You definitely didn't overhype this piece, it's fantastic! Makes me wonder why we didn't see more like this from Mr. Trimpe (and makes me understand why BWS had so much respect for him). |

The Incal: The Fifth Essence Pt. 1 p. 15 Owner: Comic Art Channel Comment posted on 2/19/2025 Great writeup, agree with it all. This is pure, manic Moebius science fiction action. So busy, so chaotic, and yet so perfectly readable and pleasingto the eye. And the way the sound effect works as part of the art: BBROOMMMMMMMM indeed! |

Jim "Catfish" Hunter sketch cards by Manix Abrera Owner: Lance Suarez Comment posted on 2/16/2025 Ah, the early '70's As were epic - one of the all time great teams. And those names, almost like comic book characters from an old Western: Blue Moon Odom, Rollie Fingers, Sal Bando, Joe Rudi, Vida Blue, Jesus Alou, Catfish . . . and Reggie Jackson. They sounded like superstars, they looked like superstars, and they played like superstars. |

Thanks, there's a better scan and the linework digitally restored and colored here: https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=2046354 I bought this piece in the late-1990s from a well-known collector who had just purchased all the BWS pages from FF 296 and said something like, "I don't need a big picture of the Thing in a raincoat!" I thought, "are you kidding me? This is a masterpiece of inking" and I happy snapped it up. ![]() Haha, that's mind blowing! His loss, your gain! Fantastic title splash. |

Sketch cards! Owner: Kevin Koch Comment posted on 1/31/2025
Marcus Wai said:
Covered a lot of ground in the 90 minutes! ![]() Yeah, we did! We discussed strategy before the event and she went right to Greorge Pratt in the illustration room, since we'd chatted with him the day before and she loved his art. I was already hanging around near Manix at 2:00 and got in his line before it got long, then stepped over to Nir Levie, who had a minimal line. We'd bought a piece of his art the day before and also signed up for an at-home commission, so I wanted to see what he'd do with a sketch card (it's his version of a low-rent Batman!). We'd also bought a couple of Ian Bertram Precious Metal pieces earlier, and Felix offered to get me a sketch card from him, even though he wasn't signed up to sketch (my suggestion was "anything Moebius!)". With those in hand, we had time to stroll around looking for short lines and cool art, and were blown away with what Moritat was doing on these tiny cards, so we both jumped in his line. Then she still had time to get a Spidey from Eranga. I tried to get into Adam Hughes line but he probably had the longest line there, and it was capped early (which I'm thankful for, would have sucked to wait 45 minutes and then be turned away). I also got to Uko Smith's line too late, but we scored a great pre-show commission from him, so that was fine. There were sooo many cool artists to chose from, and they all really delivered. |

Sketch cards! Owner: Kevin Koch Comment posted on 1/31/2025

How exactly did this work? ![]() Each attendee got two blank sketch cards (in the brown folders). From 2-3:30 on Sunday most of the artists were available to do a free sketch on the cards (participating artists had a red dot in the program). My wife and I split up, and we were also able to score a few extra cards, so we ended up with 7 sketches in the 90 minutes. |

Daredevil #17 (2011) - Mike Allred Owner: Frankie M Comment posted on 12/24/2024 Wow wow wow! I love this page. I agree with everything you wrote, and go further in saying that Allred does something here that few DD artists since Colan did with the character - he illustrates that joy and grace of Daredevil doing his thing in a virtually animated fashion, with each pose flowing into the next. And the Stiltman is one of the quintessential villians. |

X-Men The Animated Series (1992): Beast - AKOM Animation Owner: Frankie M Comment posted on 12/24/2024 These are really nice examples of Marvel animation art, all with great character images. This particular one shows off a lot of elements of the animation process - it's been 'repegged' and is a key pose in a dialog phrase. Because the animator likely speaks little or no English, the mouth shapes are pulled from a small library of shapes identified by letters. That is, I don't think these are phonemes/visemes, because there aren't enough vowels. What's interesting is the timing chart seems to indicate that the dialog is animated on 'ones' (i.e., every frame) which would be unusual for TV animation, but it might be standard to hold every drawing for two frames, and just number the drawings sequentially. |

Kevin Nowlan Hulk 362 cover Owner: Kevin Koch Comment posted on 11/25/2024
John Espinoza said:
I love this cover. Today's minimal to zero background on a cover can't hold a candle to Mr. Nowlan's stark black-and-white contrasts. And those inks. Swoon. I need more Nowlan original art in my life! I remember when I met him at Big Wow! in 2013--I couldn't tell if he was the guy who inked Quesada on Sword of Azrael (Nowlan) or the guy who inked Barretto on Vengeance of Bane (Nolan).
![]() Thanks for the comment! In revisiting this, I realized I needed to add an image of the rejected cover (from Kevin Nowlan's blog), as well as the colored/published version (colors by Nowlan specifically to work with the new version). It's amazing how dedicated he is and what a perfectionist - most artists would have added some rendering and additional details to the rejected cover, not worried about splashing around some white out, etc., but he completely redrew it not once but twice. |

Absolutely gorgeous prelims and I don't know a think about the book. I love the different shades of coloring which makes this piece interesting to look at. I also like how they are out of sequence compared to the final book. ![]() Thanks, John! Regarding the order, there's actually two pieces of paper here. The firgure on the right is on it's own piece, with the signature, apparently having been cut away from a larger piece, while the two figures to the left are on the same piece of paper with a lot of blank space to the right. I just put them in the scanner together. When I bought them they were in a plastic sleeve in this orientation and I thought it worked. |
