Nexus # 46 Pg. 4 Owner: Jim Warden Comment posted on 11/9/2024 Great summary about part of what made Nexus (among other indie comics of the time) so wonderful. |

Nexus issue 101 p17 Owner: C F Comment posted on 11/9/2024 No comments on this beauty?! Shocking. This is such a moody piece showing Horatio with the weight of the world on his shoulders. From the marginal notes, it looks like the ink washes were done by Steve. This is a really lovely piece, thanks for sharing it. |

NEXUS (B/W) #3 p.29 Owner: Felix Lu Comment posted on 11/9/2024 Time for a new comment on this beauty - amazing how fast Steve rose to the top of his game. I didn't realize these pages were oversized art - talk about wall power! This is a treasure. |

Harvey Kurtzman Pirate Gold pg 7 Owner: Sean Conlon Comment posted on 10/3/2024 Epic! That's an overused word, but it's the only one that fits this page. |

Harvey Kurtzman Pirate Gold pg 6 Owner: Sean Conlon Comment posted on 10/3/2024 Fantastic! I still remember seeing these pages when they came up for auction via Russ Cochran and thinking I should bid, but I really wanted one of the WW2 stories, and stupidly was put off by the prices those went for. This and page 7 are just Kurtzman as his epic best! Thanks for sharing. |

Alex Toth - Lonesome for Kisses! page 7 Owner: Wallace Harrington Comment posted on 6/15/2024 No comments on this page?! It's magnificent. Panel five: hubba hubba! And I love the editor's facial expressions in panels 1 and 3. This is a magnificent complete Toth story. Thanks for sharing it. |

Nick Fury Agent of Shield 12 pg 13 Owner: sean wallace Comment posted on 6/7/2024 Awesome action! Love the first panel, and the way it sets up the explosion that comes immediately afterwards. Given how much vellum BWS used on this page, it's a wonder he just didn't do it all on a clean sheet! |

Nick Fury Agent of Shield 12 pg 7 Owner: sean wallace Comment posted on 6/7/2024 I love love these pages. I just have one, but it's a doozy in so many ways. Looking at how much of this issue Smith reinked and corrected himself is, I think, a clear indicator of what an obsessively driven artist he would soon to become. And I love the drawing of Gabe on this page. |

Nick Fury Agent of SHIELD #12 pg 17 Owner: kelly b Comment posted on 6/7/2024 I can't tell from the scan, but are any of these characters on vellum? I know a huge portion of the characters were reinked by Smith on vellum and taped to the page, but I can't tell if that's the case on this page. I ask because I have pg 20 and it looks like it's all Barry Smith pencils and inks (with one figure on vellum, but that was done because he changed the character from the General to Dugan). |

Thor #176 pg.06 Owner: Enrico Salvini Comment posted on 5/27/2024 Superbe example of Kirby at his best! One could use this page to teach how to make complex scenes with tons of characters dynamic, clear, and exciting. There's not a wasted mark of the page, and nothing there that doesn't belong. I also have to agree with a couple of other comments - I think Colletta's inks are rock solid here, and complement the pencils well. |

Pete MIllar - "Jack the Stripper" Drag Cartoons #5 - August 1964 Owner: David O'Dell Comment posted on 4/2/2024 Wow, this is the most elaborate Pete Millar CARtoons page I've ever seen! It's fantastic. Have you ever posted the other pages from this story? I'd love to see the rest of it. Also, if you're comfortable saying, I'm curious where you found your CARtoons pages. They seem to come up very rarely, which isn't surprising given how undervalued they seem to be. I happened upon a stack of CARtoons OA around 1980 in Encino, and bought most of them at $1-2 per page! Since then, I don't think I've ever seen any others come up for sale, though I haven't looked terribly hard. |

Krazy Kat Sunday Page, 25 Feb 1917 Owner: C E Comment posted on 3/18/2024 This is amazing. How can this only have one comment!? (I assume it's because this was posted rather early in the history of CAF). Your collection is increadible, but these Krazy Kats are spectacular. I've also enjoyed reading your detailed stories about the pieces and how you acquired them. Thank you for putting this history out there. |

Steve Rude - Nexus (issue 13, page14) Owner: Michael Diaz Comment posted on 2/10/2024 These are two great pages! I had dropped out of reading comics for a good while, bored with the same-ol', same-ol' cliches and stereotypes, and then found Nexus on my first visit back into a comic shop in years. Scenes like this really hooked me on the series and on Rude's art. |

daredevil 22 Colan twice up 1966 four panel Marvel greatness Owner: Rob Pistella Comment posted on 12/31/2023 Love this page! It reminds me a lot of my Daredevil page from issue 80: https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1208056 One thing I like about Colan's work is even when he's kind of repeating himself, he's never using repetitive stock poses or relying on a limited set of tricks. I wonder how many car roofs Daredevil wrecked during the Colan years? |

Nice panel 2 with the shirt defined by stripes. The youthful faces and characters are done clean and full of expression that are age correct. ![]() Yes, one of Steve's great assets is the ability to draw various characters with authenticity and distinctness, and do it consistently. So many comic artists have a standard 'pretty girl' face, standard angry guy face, etc. |

Sundra by Steve Rude Owner: Shannon El Guapo Slayton Comment posted on 4/27/2015 This is actually a drawing of Ursula, from the first version of the Nexus Animated promo. A later version of the promo can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekfCRzn9pQM I was one of a tiny handful of volunteers who inbetweened Steve's key drawings, painted cels, and even animated a few scenes. I think this particular scene never made it to the cel-painting stage, though I could be wrong. I hate to say it, but this might be one of those inbetweens. It might have been done by Tom Nelson, who went on to be a prominent story artist/concept artist in animation. You can tell Steve's key drawings pretty readily from our drawings! This one looks a little tentative. Your drawings of Dave in his PJs and Nexus racing the comet are also from the animated promo. |

Le Garage Hermétique (The Airtight Garage) Owner: Suat Tong Ng Comment posted on 3/23/2015 Bravo! Beautiful writeup! Jack Kirby Thor 130, p 13 Owner: Kevin Koch Comment posted on 3/3/2015
John Papandrea said:
In general. The Jack Kirby Collector published an in depth analysis of this subject with photos of pages (before and after). VC had a tendency to erase parts of Kirby's background pencil art as a shortcut to save time and ink more pages. ![]() I'm aware of Colletta's tendencies and reputation. That's why I made the comment I did in the page description -- Vince Colletta did a fine job here of being true to Kirby's intent. Not only are there no erased parts, but I find the figure work to be extremely good. The way Jack Kirby drew, it's not uncommon for some figures to get distorted, especially since inkers tend to get lost in his stylized suggestions for muscles and contours. In this particular case, none of that is evident. I suggest rather than casually parroting someone else's blanket condemnation of Colletta's work, you take a look at actual the OA judge for yourself. |

Barry Windsor Smith--Savage Tales, Conan Treasury pin up Owner: Scott Williams Comment posted on 3/2/2015 Oh, damn, what a piece! I spent hours staring at this piece in the Conan Treasury edition, studying every single line, right down to every blade of grass. I, too, love those huge pages. BWS art from this period feels cramped within the pages of regular comics. A true grail piece. |
