I have no doubt this genre included the smurfs too.  A bit of fantasy and whimsy was much needed at a time when world tensions were high and everyone needed an escape.    

Upon immediately first glance it also gave me a bit of the vibe/appeal of the Smurfs, and then I saw you mention that in your description as well ha! I don't know much about this title but it's always cool to learn more about foreign language comics from other countries/areas through the artwork - congrats and thanks for sharing!

Great stylish splash!  The '67 Corvette takes center stage as they purposely hide the face so you'd only study the sleek contours and the speed.

I'm thinking that pen is drawn too detailed not to be a spy gadget.

Pretty cool page! Had no idea a graphic novel about Charlie Chaplin's life/career was a thing, now that I know I want to track it down and read it. Thanks for making me aware of it through your art share and congrats on the art!

MAN! Dave is so talented. Absolutely fantastic page - great pick up. I love how effortlessly real this seems, and the composition is inspired. Killer. 

The resemblence is uncanny! It's like we're looking at an actual picture of his face on the canvas! Cool to see this early work by Burnley before his DC days!

Even for 100 years old the humor holds up! Just replace with the modern tech conveniences (inconveniences?) of today and it's still the same struggles haha. Great piece!

Ever watch an artist sketch at a convention?  Or give direction to a commission?  I guess Burnley didn't like his editors meddling too much.

It's all a part of doing business.  Most of the time, things move slow and you'd have steady leadership.  The faster bosses jerk the business around, the more erratic it is with over course correction.

The character designs are very 60's Ditko.  I'm sure the layout is Kirby fourth world and the pose of Captain Atom is taken from Kirby's Thor. 

wow what a cool piece including so many classic designs for Charlton hero characters! Mike certainly pays proper tribute to the illustrators/creators who originally spawned these characters to life. I think your gut instinct is probably correct that Jack Kirby did not pencil this and that note is about stylistic tribute or something of that nature but someone with a more discerning eye or knowledge of both Mike or Jack may weigh in who knows. either way, nice piece.

a nice peak into Tim's process for sure. I enjoy picking up prelims from artists who can sometimes be out of reach to collect their marquee published work price wise as well. cool pickup.
