Wow, I would have paid money just to go to that dinner! As a Miracleman fan (somehow, after being introduced to the character as Miracleman, the Marvelman name sounded somewhat peculiar), it is a real treat to see Arthur Adams tackle the character and bring a modern twist to a cult classic. Congratulations on a Miraculous acquisition.

While Bob Layton is the definitive Iron Man artist for me and perhaps a generation of Marvel readers, sometimes when you pursue unexpected and unusual pairings of artist and character, you can make magic. That's what you have here. A great head sketch by Brandon that really captures the character in a special way. Congratulations!

There's something about pencils, isn't there. The purity of the idea. Rough, unfinished, and yet complete. They're best when you have an excellent penciller, like Reis here, who spots the blacks, puts in all the shadows and knows anatomy very very well. It will become something completely different if it is ever inked, equally beautiful, but different. Nevertheless, whether inked or now, Reis' work is something to behold, especially on GL. Congratulations on a beautiful acquisition.

While Marshall's Detective run may be most heralded, his Dr. Strange work both with Terry Austin and P. Craig Russell may be some of the finest (no longer quite under the radar art) Rogers art out there. This cover, with all of Marshall's talents on fine display is a simply incredible example of Marshall's expansive imagination and talent. Congratulations on a spectacular piece!

There was a time when John Byrne took over FF and wanted to show the world that he was not just a hot artist, but was trying to create a great legacy, comparable to the legendary FF run of Lee and Kirby. Pages and stories like this one are a testament to that legacy. Congratulations on a spectacular acquisition.

So it was you! I was the underbidder in the Heritage Auction in which this was sold all those years ago. I remember an interview with Giffen where they asked him about the Great Darkness Saga and he said that he realized the inequity in power between writer and artist when drawing this page and came across the instruction that he draw a panel that showed an entire world's population rising as one. There's a thousand different ways to draw that idea, but I wonder if anyone else could have done it as powefully or as elegantly as Giffen did it there, and it just seemed so effortless. Really a beautiful page from, what I believe still is the best Legion storyline ever. Congratulations!

To get the absolute best piece that he ever did, with his best inker, at the absolute height of his abilities with basically every single character simply boggles the mind. A tremendous piece, I am envious, but so very happy for you at the same time. Congratulations on getting a true grail!

Nothing says "I want to draw Batman" like this Finch cover. In my mind, Finch never really had anything to prove, as he did not go through that awkward phase that some artists have where they are trying to find their voice or style. Finch burst onto the scene as a great artist and then became something truly special. You are fortunate to have acquired one of the gems that he created along the way. Congratulations on the piece and acquiring the ever elusive 50 comments!

Often, sequels are pale shadows of the original. I don't remember thinking that when I read this story arc all those years ago. Under O'Neil's steady guidance and McDonnell's moody pencils, this story read more like a natural regression into an all too common addiction. This page reflects one of those moments in comics that so strongly imitate life and contribute to the deep rooted nostalgia that drives this hobby. Congratulations on a great acquisition.

I do so love vintage Austin inks. Everything looks so sharp and perfectly drawn. This is a very nice example by Jeff Aclin, whose work is sparse (I think he drew the cover to the first issue of a 1979 reboot of Marvel Spotlight featuring Captain Marvel, but other than that, I don't remember seeing much of his work. It is so easy to mention Neal's mastery of anatomy and perspective because those show in almost every single page he's touched. What this page does, a little more than some others, is to showcase Neal the storyteller, and demonstrates that when Mr. Adams was on his game, no one could touch him. Regardless of whether we are in someone's body or in the furthest reaches of space, Neal was one of the few people who could really make you feel like you are there, like he does in this page. Palmer inks are like the frosting on the sweetest of cakes. Probably the best money you spent when you were younger, and congratulations on a great acquisition.

One of the most truthful things you have written in this comic art collecting blog masquerading as an art collection showcase is "because in most cases, the price has more to do with the signature rather than the drawing," and it is especially true here. I remember seeing Plunkett's art when collecting comics and wondering why I hadn't seen him on more books. I still don't know the answer to that question, but as far as "the drawing" goes, regardless of how much you paid, you will be hard pressed to find better. Congratulations on, after all these years, still not buying the hype and collecting great art, it's truly "super."

One of the things that sets Ivan Reis apart from many other artists, especially when rendering large multi figure panoramas such as this one, is the attention to the art as a whole and the use of the main figures to enhance the layout and presentation of the piece. When you put this artistic foresight together with a style that is reminiscent of a young Neal Adams, you get impressive pieces like this one. Tremendous congratulations!
