I understand where you're coming from on the technology baffling you. But I think your idea of at least taking that first step and just having one of those video transfer places put all the material from the Betamax tapes onto DVD, would be a good first step. Though keep in mind that even DVD could become obsolete in a few more years. Thanks!

You are totally right. I suppose I should ask his son for the master tapes. It's been several years. Did you see the other three Spiders I have posted?

Jack, the fact that any video exists at all is amazing, but it doesn't do the hobby and future generations any good if it isn't seen by anyone. Is there any way you could figure out how to upload the video you took of DeSoto online somewhere for people to see?

DeSoto's son currently has my Betamax tapes. I suppose at some point I will put them on DVD. I used to have a character I did on television. A comedic reporter so to speak. I have been meaning To put one episode on You Tube for six years now. The technology baffles me. Last time I tried it said "download time 8 hours." In the meantime, Ed Hulse did a feature on my interviews in his magazine Blood and Thunder. A few years ago. I've shown it at what used to be known as Pulpcon also to an audience which included Jim Steranko and a handful of other people that were interested. I'll see if I can make a DVD sometime. Thanks for Your interest.

Painting is not an easy thing to do. Whether a Doc Savage fan can get used to boobies on Doc or not remains to be seen. Either way you should still be commended for painting a darn good image. Like I said it's not easy. Congratulations!

Victor, hi! DeSoto didn't use a model for this as far as I know. Then again I was in Pennsylvania and he was on Long Island at the time. He used my wife for two of them. Rafael used William Magnar for a lot of his assignments . I hope I spelled his name correctly. Magnar was also the model for the Shadow. I have one or two photos of him posing Rafael gave me. thanks!! Jack

Jack, Another great Star Wars painting. Finding the toys is one thing, but to get original oil paintings is great! Too boot, Disney now has the rights to Star Wars and it will be popular now for many more years. It is great to pick up an item that takes you back to your days with Jonathan when he was young. A great painting and pick-up! Dwight

Thanks Dwight. The interesting thing will be which way Disney goes with the story. I think it's safe to say Boba Fett will stay on. Thanks again. Jack

Are you sure that you are not speaking to my childhood? I believe that the only difference would be my end game being instructing golf and selling Star Wars toys for a living :) Your painting is definitely a homage to Dark Empire and the robot's name is Zeezee, Han and Leia's housekeeper of sorts. Dark Empire still holds up as one of the best reads of the 1990's, in my opinion. Such a shame that Lucas never made episodes 7-9 as this story line would have made for some great movies!

James, You are indeed very lucky to be a golf instructor. When I was a cameraman we traveled to many different golf courses doing special features. I always thought to myself that the golf pro had a great job. Of course I suppose there is a downside to every occupation although that one seemed to have limited. Thanks for the information. My son is much more involved than I am as far as the stories go. My current mania is World War Two painted flight jackets and combat art. I derive a lot of fun researching each piece. If time permits and you guys are interested maybe I'll start a war gallery. Those WW2 pilots were real life Han Solos. Best, Jack

This is one incredible painting! Fantastic pick up! Does the wife really need to know? ;)

Eventually the bill comes in the mail, so yes, it's best she finds out. Plus, there's the whole hanging it up on the wall thing. As Beaver said to Wally once in the tv show Leave it to Beaver, "Gee Wally, women sure are complicated." Seriously though, I've been married for 33 years now and she pretty much knows when I'm up to something before i even do it. Some kind of special women's intuition i guess. God bless her though, she's a Angel. I once spent our retirement on golden age comic books. This should be a piece of cake, I hope. Thanks again for your kind comment. Jack

Awesome! This was a scene from the original Dark Empire mini series published by Dark Horse. If memory serves...

I'll have to ask my son Jonathan to let me read it again. It's funny, but the only thing I could get him interested in as a kid was Star Wars. He loved everything about Star Wars. Jon is 27 years old now and a Teacher. I'm 58 going on 12. We used to advertise in the newspaper for Star Wars toys back in the 1980's and 90's. He had a terrific collection. Then one day I found out he was selling his duplicate figures during recess in grade school. Once the teacher told me "If Jonathan knew his times tables like he knows his Star Wars figures he'd be in business." I guess he was in business already in a way. Anyway, the bond remains to this day. Matt's art brings back a whole slew of fond memories. I'm lucky to have the two paintings. I have a feeling they'll be in the family for a LONG time. Thanks again James! Jack

When I was a kid (I'm 56 now) my late brother Jim moved to New Jersey to live with my Aunt Verona. My Uncle traveled a lot and my Mom was kind enough to spare one of two kids for a few years. Anyway, my Uncle Joe got Jim started building model airplanes. I'll never forget visiting and he must have had thirty planes hanging from the ceiling. It was just so cool to sit and look at them. You have the right idea my friend. Those were the days. Great collection you have. keep up the good work.

I'll trade you my Little Orphan Annie Decoder ring and 100,000 for it. This was the only Shadow pulp to actually sell out on the news stands that snowy night way back in January of 1933. How cool is THAT? The reason is obvious. The kids thought the skull was COOL! My pick for best Shadow cover of all time. And I was a Shadow nut for many years. Ask my wife if you don't believe me. LUCKY,LUCKY YOU.

She knows how much I paid for them. Probably double what any collector has spent on a Bama in years. Maybe triple. Ditto on Larkin Docs. Just call me crazy, but I always hope someday I'll get a call on a Doc because prople know I will be fair with them. So no, she'd know enough to look up how much I spent. So much stuff gets sold cheap because collectors fail to attach pertinant information on the back of whatever it is they collect. It then becomes "stuff." Nice try though.

Thomas, Thanks. My wife and friends think it's all quite insane. For instance, the other day, she had the nerve to take Larkin's Hate Genius down from our one bedrooms and replace it with the blue Painting of Doc in front of the pyramids from Omnibus 8. Adolf is now hanging in my daughter's while she is away at college. I suppose she will have something to say when she returns home also. "I'm not keen on waking up to Hitler," my bride of 27 years said. "Forget Hitler, look at Doc," I replied. No dice. Thanks again, Jack
