Some of the finest artists currently working in the comic book industry today have come out of Brazil and I would put Ed Benes in the top three. A piece like this one just proves my point. It's not just my opinion people, it's a provable fact! As an aside, I always wanted a Starfire piece by Benes, maybe I should try to acquire one in the not so distant future. Keep on truckin', Ari!

OMGWTFBBQ! The coloring on this piece is OUTSTANDING! I can't even begin to imagine how much time it took to make the stonework look so lifelike. It's like you can reach out and touch it. There's such subtlety in the gradients. Just such a stand out piece that calling it balltastic is doing it a disservice. Keep on truckin', Ari!

The cape really takes this piece from being just a great pick up and in to the category of knocking it out of the park. While not quite grail worthy it's certainly balltastic. Keep on truckin', Ari!

Rest assured, Mr. Shapiro, my balls are well taken care of. My Summer home in the Hamptons has an entire room dedicated to display cabinets (designed by Thom Filicia, no less. Believe me, he's been around more than a few balls) filled to near bursting with my balls. I'd rather not discuss what I've paid for my balls themselves but the money I've spent on just having my balls professionally displayed and lit for all my guests enjoyment would most likely rival what some on CAF have probably spent on their entire OA collection. Professional lighting designers don't come cheap, in case you weren't aware of that fact.

Mr. Shapiro, I am recognized as one of the top most authorities on the East Coast on Bocce balls, Jai alai balls, Pétanque balls, Sepak takraw balls AND Wiffleball balls. Of all the new Kelley Jones commissions this one easily stands heads and shoulders above them ALL. Even that Batman and Catwoman piece pales in comparison. This piece is the pinnacle of what Kelley Jones could produce and I feel confident that I could prove that in open court in front of a jury of Mr. Jones' peers. This piece needs to be published as a wraparound cover immediately. Preferably yesterday, if at all possible. In a collection chock full of stand out pieces this one reigns... One might think (they'd be wrong but, legally, they'd be allowed to think it ;-]) that such a simple theme such as Batman posed on/near a gargoyle would grow tiresome after awhile. Then you look at a piece by a TRUE master (No, I don't use that word lightly) of the craft of graphic storytelling, such as what Mr. Steranko has done here and your breath is literally taken away. From the art deco styled gargoyle Batman has been perched upon to the way Mr. Steranko has posed Batman covering his face with his forearm and then the minimalist cityscape background. It's easy to see how much time and thought Mr. Steranko put into this piece by the time all was said and done. BRAVO, Mr. Steranko! Keep on truckin', Ari!

This is/was Mike's 7th full size cover recreation and the second version of this cover. I own the 6th and last version (and to the best of my knowledge, Mike's last ever cover quality commission) of this cover which Mike completed 5 years ago just this month.
