Two separate and fascinating conversations about the production process (one with Andy Yanchus and one with John Romita) have altered my understanding of how covers were often handled between the publisher and the printing company. It was both regimentally structured AND loosely "whatever works" and they managed to succeed with both simultaneously. Hitting deadlines every single month, on multiple books, with each one requiring a 4-color printing plate for EACH page and cover.....crazy!
