Well, Gabby is a clone of Laura so they're supposed to look the same :) As for using her own image, I'm guessing she might have acted out the facial expressions for reference as many artists do and that's what you're recognizing.

Hey and thanks, man! It's cool that he showed it off to you. Not all artists are open to the added complexity of something like connected covers, but some seem to enjoy the challenge and the opportunity to make something cool. I think Dan fits into that second category. From what he's said, he had fun working on it. :)

I realize you're just making an observation and probably know the following already, but I'll point this out in case anyone reading isn't aware of CGC's practices: This is an example of CGC's signature series (yellow label) which means the signature, and in this case sketch, was witnessed by a CGC representative. Sig series books do not take the witnessed "writing" into account when grading. However, if the signature/sketch had been unwitnessed and the book was submitted for a Universal grade (blue label), the writing would be treated as a defect and the grade would be lowered accordingly. Personally I don't think the grade on the book really matters for sketch covers anyway, as they're all about the original artwork.

Yeah, I think he did a great job, especially considering the limitation of having to place one character on each book cover. It's also fun to see how the individual action taking place on each cover interacts with other covers, like Psylocke cutting off the hand about to blast Pixie. Or Domino knocking the sentinel off balance with a rifle shot so its beam narrowly misses the dodging Kitty.

Thanks, Scott! Incidentally, this cover was done as part of a 10-cover CGC opportunity and Gabriele completed all 10 painted covers in about 5 days. Most similar sketch cover opportunities takes several weeks, if not months, to complete. Blew me away that he can produce such high quality art in such a short time. He's a beast!

This one blew me away when I first saw it on Mann's Tumblr site. Maybe the best Harley "sketch" I've seen, her pose and expression is wonderful. Congrats on an awesome piece!
