Jack Kirby Museum Panel at Empire Comic Fest

Empire Comic Fest 7 is hosting a panel discussion on the 20th anniversary of the Jack Kirby Museum and Research Center. It will be held at the convention this weekend.
The museum is dedicated to preserving and promoting Kirby's work through exhibits, panels, and discussions. They are building a comprehensive online archive of his work, and they do research and offer support for archival publications featuring his work.
The "Jack Kirby Museum @20: Growing with the King" panel discussion will be led by Jack Kirby Museum & Research Center President Tom Kraft and Hippy Comix publisher, writer, and editor Dan Fogel. They will discuss Kirby's history, tell personal anecdotes about the comics luminary, and celebrate the museum's anniversary. The panel is scheduled for 12 PM to 1 PM on Saturday, July 12, 2025.

Jack Kirby is widely regarded as the King of Comics, with a career in comics that started in the late 1930's until his passing in 1994. Jack is best known for creating Captain America in the '40s with Joe Simon with Timely Comics. In the 1950's Kirby created the Challengers of the Unknown for National Comics (DC), and also worked on the strip Sky Masters of the Space Force. A turning point in Jack's career was when you rejoined Marvel comics in the late 1950s, first working on fantastic monster titles such as Strange Tales, Tales to Astonish, Tales of Suspense and more. Working with Stan Lee (then Editor-in-Chief) at Marvel Comics, Jack helped create titles such as the Fantastic Four, Thor, the Hulk, Iron Man, the original X-Men, and so many others. Kirby became the work horse for Marvel Comics during his time there, and many artists were told to adopt his artistic philosophy. In late 1970 Kirby returned to DC and produced a trilogy of titles for his Fourth World work with DC, New Gods, Mister Miracle, and The Forever People. Other popular work by Jack Kirby at DC included OMAC and Kamandi. Jack also spent some additional time with Marvel where he created The Eternals, Devil Dinosaur, Machine Man, Black Panther, and worked on an adaptation of the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. Later creator-owned work for included Captain Victory and Silver Star, and he co-created Destroyer Duck with Steve Gerber.
