Lee got his start in comics in 1943 working at Fiction House on the aviation themed book Wing Comics, which is also the comic that Gene Colan and Al Williamson got their first professional credits. Elias went on to work for a number of publishers including Timely Comics, Harvey Comics, DC and Marvel, as well as several comic strips of which Beyond Mars being the one he's best known for. In comics Lee Elias' artwork really shined on Black Cat for Harvey Comics, where he worked as both penciler and inker in the series.While he retired from comics in 1982 he continued to teach comic art at Burne Hogarth's School of Visual Arts and The Joe Kubert School.
