Description

Super psyched to add another major piece to the collection. By John Jude Palencar, he created this for the wrap around box set art for a 50th Anniversary collection of JRR Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” in 2005, published by Houghton Mifflin. In addition to the art for the box, John also created art for the covers of the three volumes of the set. It was meant to be an edition marketed towards a younger audience. It was also reproduced in John’s art book, “Origins”, published the following year in 2006 by Underwood Books. For those curious, the two central figures are symbolic representations of good and evil, not actual characters, though you can see Gandalf and the Nazgûl in the background.
