Description

George Baker's (1915-1975) is not all that scarce, given the numerous Sad Sack comic book covers that emerged from the Harvey warehouse over the past 20+ years. But Baker's WWII cartoon work is exceedingly scarce. I have seen only three original Sad Sack cartoons from YANK magazine in 40+ years of collecting. This original, from March 23, 1945, came out of the estate of the actor Jose Ferrer, who was a friend of Baker. Baker gifted it to Ferrer, with the inscription, "To Joe - who was a big part of my happy times -" The cartoon was reprinted in the second book collection of cartoons, "The New Sad Sack", published in 1946.
