DescriptionThis was an awesome pickup from the OAX auction. This piece was outside my normal wheelhouse, but just seeing it in person at the auction made me want to bid on it.The funny thing though was I saw how large it was and the fact that it looked beautifully painted, but had not been tracking who or what it was from. I originally saw a shield and was guessing Captain America was in it with Iron Man, so made a spontaneous bid sight unseen due to my angle in the room. However, depicted is Ironheart and The Mighty Avengers, which both of them being characters I am not very familiar with. At first this made me a little disappointed as I was hoping to land a few of the avengers characters in a painted piece. I then decided to read the issue and learned a bit more. Not only am I happy about the win, I am quite excited to get the piece framed on my wall. This is something I wouldn’t normally have gone for, but I feel it was bought for a purpose. Additionally, it is my understanding that Ironheart will be ending phase 5 of the MCU, so how could I not be excited. As most of my art is Guardians of the Galaxy related, I noticed that my walls don’t have enough diversity in the imagery. Although not done purposefully, I am happy to add this piece not only as it has a strong black lead, but also for the fact that there is a heroine as the main focus of the piece. While at OAX I had the opportunity to listen in on some of the interviews being done around the “Collections in Black” gallery that was being displayed at the show. The conversations I was listening to were uplifting and educational. Also having the ability to see some of the pieces in the collection in person was absolutely inspirational. This piece being a good reminder for my own walls of the importance of diversity in comics. Additionally, as I am raising three young girls to be strong independent women, I find importance in having imagery of women in lead roles visible for them as well. In regard to the artistry, I have nothing but high praise to be spoken for Marco Rudy’s artwork. I was unfamiliar with his work prior to OAX, but post OAX, he is high on my radar of artists after seeing the amazing pieces he has created. This issue fits perfect within my wheelhouse as it has a sci-fi flare with time travel and incredible world design. This piece was labeled as 22"x17". Watercolor and acrylic on 300g watercolor paper.
