DescriptionJames Allen St. John - "The Chessmen of Mars" - Edgar Rice Burroughs, Cover Prelim, A.C. McClurg & Company, 1922. Mixed media on board, 11 x 8 inches.Back in 2019 I downsized my collection with a single owner auction at Heritage and one of the casualties was the full color painting of "The Chessmen of Mars" which I had owned for several decades. Of course it was hard to let it go, but it did very well at auction. Recently, this prelim for the painting that I had owned for so long became available, and a strong sense of nostalgia demanded that I add it to my collection! It amazes me that this prelim is over 100 years old and I am very happy to have this remembrance of the wonderful painting that hung in my library for so many years. Social/Sharing |
