Description

Absolutely love this epic splash by Nick Bradshaw from the 2014 Free Comic Book Day issue of Guardians of the Galaxy. I saw Nick at Fan Expo Canada 2025 and asked him if this issue was his first time drawing Guardians and if he drew the pages in chronological order. He confirmed this splash was his first time drawing the team during his run of covers and interiors.

In this issue Tony Stark convinces Flash Thompson (Agent Venom) to replace him on the Guardians of the Galaxy team. Tony tells Flash that the Guardians are similar to the Avengers except in space and that they answer to no one. How can Flash say no!

Nick Bradshaw is my favorite artist and Guardians are my favorite team! I'm a huge fan of Nick's run on Guardians of the Galaxy and he does such a great job breathing life into each character. I told myself I was going to take a break purchasing comic art for 2025 but I just couldn't pass this up. I also own Nick's cover to GotG issue 21 which follows the Free Comic Book Day issue.

This comic was published just a few months before the first GotG movie was released in theatres. It was meant to be a jumping point for new readers of the ongoing series and to help promote the movie. Guardians of the Galaxy film was critically acclaimed and went on to become a incredibly successful trilogy. To this day many top Marvel movie lists include Volume 1 in their top 5. I know I do!
