DescriptionThis is it! The final piece from my Original Comic Art Unboxing with Ruben DaCollector. It's a Doozy! The legendary Neal Adams. In 1989. Tim Drake, was introduced and poised to become the new Robin (Robin III). In 1990, Tim Drake's Robin received a new costume and was going to get his first solo series. It was a big deal! It was! The new Robin costume was designed by the legendary Neal Adams. DC comics had a bunch of artists submit costume designs for the new Robin and Neal's design was chosen. The new costume made its debut in Batman #457. A month later Robin #1 was released. In it, was a poster by Neal Adams of Robin in his new costume that he designed. It was a big deal. It was the first new art Neal had produced for DC Comics in some time (I could be wrong but that's how I remember it). It was a fold out poster so it was pretty big. It looked great! Robin, in his new costume, standing atop a gargoyle smiling. It was great and impressive. Neal still had it. I started reading comics in the mid 80's. Growing up and going to the local comic shop you'd always hear Adams was one of the best artists ever. He was a legend when I started reading comics. That's what I knew him as, a great artist who used to work for DC Comics. He wasn't doing regular comic book work anymore. Sure, he had Continuity comics and I bought a few of them but they didn't come out with any regularity. There is a lot of comic art I like and I would love to buy it all. That's not realistic. Every once in a while though, you come across a piece of art you've never seen or knew existed but once you see it, you know. The second I saw this one, I knew. Neal Adams wasn't even on the radar, I'd always thought I would end up with a random Neal Adams Green Arrow sketch and be happy with that. Instead I saw this and knew it was the perfect piece for me. When you know you know. Robin #1 fold-out poster. This image was also used as a door poster for the first mini-series in 1990 and again for the second mini-series in 1991. The original art has Batman on it and the published poster does not. You can see on the original tape marks where they taped over Batman with a stat(?) (I don't have the piece). Paper is a little beat up but I don't care. All Neal Adams. It's an awesome piece. I'm excited/giddy/amazed/overjoyed to have this in my collection. So cool! ROBIN # 1 (1990) ROBIN fold-out poster by artist Neal Adams. On 16.25X11.5 paper. 1990. Social/Sharing |
