Description19 x 24Many fans of Paul Pope gravitate towards his Batman Year 100 art. As a big fan, I also love his Batman but since I began collecting as well as his indie work, there was one piece that was "The One" for me as far as favorites. It dropped while I was at a work convention, and when I realized it was there, poof, gone. Over the years, I would express my interest and make various offers to the owner but the time wasn't right. Thankfully, a time came when it was to be replaced in his collection by an amazing piece and I got the call. I wasn't going to mess around and finally after all this time, it was mine. This is probably the only piece in my collection that I've dedicated some years to try to acquire. As a big fan of Kirby and Pope, this piece is just unbelievable. Nezarr the Calculator in the mountains of Siberia (?) looming over a duo of mountain climbers. The execution of scale here is outstanding as well as all the details in the foreground characters, including the shock of seeing a monstrous Celestial bearing down upon them. The verbosity of the title of this comic provides a very nice contrast to the elegant simplicity of Pope's artwork for it. Absolutely a perfect piece of comic art that immediately jumps towards the very top of my collection as far as importance to me. I believe Paul Pope is a true original in this medium that has no comparable. His breadth of independent masterpieces along with mainstream superhero work should only continue to grow in appreciation as readers discover him. The skill of his brush and the energy and power he expresses visually is truly special to behold and a reason why I've regretted letting go of any pieces by him, and have decided to have as one of a handful of artists I focus my collecting on going forward. Thanks so much Andy for making it available and much thanks to my main man Felix for lugging this thing from SD so it got to me safely. Truly grateful for these two connections I've made through the hobby. This was the 1:10 Incentive Variant. Social/Sharing |
