DescriptionGoing to continue a little more on this Hex trip.I never read the Hex series but I recognized this moment from the Jonah Hex Spectacular (1978). For those that don't know, in the JHS , it is revealed that Jonah Hex is killed and that his taxidermied corpse is used as a circus attraction. This is the moment Hex sees what the future has in store for him. The final two pages from the final issue of the future apocalyptic Hex series (1985). Jonah Hex sees his taxidermied corpse, realizes that he will find his way back to the past and that he will die an old man. One of my favorite two page sequences. I never knew this moment existed. I initially bought page 21 (in 2010) because it was a Keith Giffen drawn Jonah Hex. I was not going to pass that up. Then I read the issue and realized this was the penultimate page from the last issue of the hex series. Made it all the sweeter. Since then I've always been on the look out for the final page. I thought the two pages belonged together. By a stroke of fate, I was working out a deal with a fellow collector (during a CAF live event) who mentioned he had pages from the Hex series. He asked if I had any interest. I said the only page I was interested in was the last page of the series. He emailed me an image of the last page and I immediately forgot about the original deal and just wanted that final page. Lol. We worked out a deal for both and I was ecstatic to say the least. Finally after fifteen years of patiently waiting and hoping it would turn up, the last page from the last Jonah Hex story (at the time) was mine. The two page sequence was complete. After 10+ years as the writer for Jonah Hex, Michael Fleisher bids farewell to the character he nurtured through three series (Weird Western Tales-Jonah Hex-Hex). So too does the fifteen year saga of Jonah Hex come to a close (debuted in All-Star Western #10 1972 - Hex #18 1987). Hex #18 pgs 21-22 by artists Keith Giffen and Carlos Garzon. On 2 11X17 boards. 1987 Social/Sharing |
