Belén OrtegaSpaniard Belén Ortega is a full-blown manga and comics monster. She is best known for her work on Batman: Urban Legends, Punchline (The Joker), her latest covers for DC and Marvel, and her manga Himawari.
Belen’s hyper-detailed, unconventionally perfect compositions and storytelling skills make her one of the most exciting and interesting contemporary artists in comics.
With a Fine Arts degree from the University of Granada, she moved to Japan for a while, where she attended the Human Academy in Osaka. Belén’s first professional work, the multi-awarded manga Himawari, came out in 2010. It was followed by more works, including her BD Pájaro Indiano, the motorcycling champion biography Marc Márquez: La Historia de un Sueńo, and Dupuis’ bestselling comic Millenium Saga. She’s also collaborated with many brands, including FNAC, Suárez Jewelry, Jesús del Pozo, Filip Cusic, Tezucomi Magazine, Lola Índigo, Heavy Metal Magazine and… Megadeth. Yes, THAT Megadeth.
2019 saw Belén Ortega’s first work in Marvel Comics as a cover and interior artist on Miles Morales: Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, and more. Shortly after, she began collaborating with DC Comics as an artist on Batman: Urban Legends (featuring the DC Pride Tim Drake Special, where Robin reveals his bisexuality), and other Batman Universe books including Punchline (The Joker) and a back-up Catwoman story inside the pages of the flagship Batman title.
Belén’s most recent works include a Wonder Woman story for DC’s Tales from Earth-6: A Celebration of Stan Lee, the first volume of Editions Caurette’s BD Patriarchy, and illustration work for Fortnite and Riot Games.
