DescriptionThis original art was used for page 21 of Captain 3-D #1 (1953/Harvey Comics). The art area is 12" X 18", and it's in really nice shape except for the white border that's laid over the top. The art was penciled by Jack Kirby on a sheet of craft-tint board. The inking was done by Mort Meskin on several overlying sheets of mylar-like plastic. Each plastic sheet has a portion of the art inked in, starting with the background art and each suceeding sheet having a portion of the art that is progressively closer to the viewer's perspective. Once this was done, Jack's pencils on the craft-tint board were thoroughly erased (ouch), and the board was painted with different chemicals to bring out various shading effects. All of this was held in a special frame that kept the sheets separated by a set amount, and was then photographed by 2 cameras at a fixed distance apart.
