Greetings and a little help about a page.

Hello Internet World of Comic Art Collectors,

I've been collecting original comic art pages for about 9 years now. I started as a very very casual collector mainly purchasing pages via eBay, but in the past two years I've started buying from various dealers and attending ComicCon with the sole interest of buying art and meeting the artist in person.  It's a wonderful hobby, and I appreciate owning a handmade one-of-a-kind original piece of art and comic book history. The very first piece of comic art I ever owned was given to me at the age of 3 by my neighbors. The have a daughter and while on a cruise they met a nice man who drew comics for a living. Of no interest to their daughter they asked the man if he'd draw a picture for their 3 year old neighbor who loved his character. The man obliged and art hung on my bedroom wall for over a decade before I knew who he was. The Character was Batman and the kindly gentlemen was Bob Kane. It remains one of my most prized possessions and I've been a batman junkie ever since.

Now for the Help Me part. One of the very first pieces of art I bought on eBay was a page from the Batman/Darkness crossover. These pages were listed on eBay directly from Top Cow at the time as part of a charity fundraiser and each came with a certificate from Top Cow. Now, the page I bought is page 37, an excellent panel of Batman as he rescues Jackie's girlfriend from his Uncle on the rooftop. My problem is, I have no clue who drew it! I thought at the time I purchased a page drawn by Marc Silvestri, but now I have my doubts since there were three pencilers on that comic, Silverstri, Lansang, and Daniels.

Any assistance in identifying the artist would be appreciated. I love the page and each of the three artists, I am just curious who drew it.

Thanks,

LJ

This particular msg forum is intended for illustration art collectors, but there are quite a few comic art collectors who collect both. There is also forum more specific to comic art available from the forums tab above, on this page.

I cant help you except to suggest you try searching this site with terms such as Darkness and slog your way thru the results.

You can also try joining the comicart list, available as a Yahoo Group. The group is moderated, so you may not be able to post immediately, The group, however, is quite active and there will be someone (probably several) who will be able to answer you.

Hi Len,

You mean to tell us that they didn't bother to print the artist's name on the certificate, or have them sign either the art or certificate? They really dropped the ball there.

Easiest way to find out who it is is to ask Top Cow. Going to the source is always best. http://topcow.com/company has their email address in the left column blurb. Or use the contact form on Silvestri's site: http://marcsilvestriart.com/store/?page_id=86

You may also try asking on their twitter or facebook page if you belong to either.

I tried two comic database sites, sometimes they list who did what pages if multiple artists are used, but they didn't for this comic.

Good luck!

Hey Len,

might well be that the artist is David Finch you are talking about.

I have one of the pages from that spectacular book in my CAF gallery. There were so many artists working on it to get it out in time. It should be written in the book wich artist did wich page... I will have a look and will update this post as soon as I know it for sure.

Best,

Thomas
