Description

http://orianakacicek.blogspot.com

Born in 1986, Pennsylvania native Oriana Kacicek spent her early years in a nurturing environment of great art, dance, music and literature. Inspired and encouraged by her mother, also a painter, she began painting and drawing at the age of one and continued the practice throughout her teenage years. She trained for her career as a ballet dancer at the School of American Ballet in NYC, performing on the New York State Theater and Metropolitan Opera House stages, and continued to perform as a professional at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. During a trip to Europe and the Netherlands, hours spent at the Louvre, Musée d'Orsay and the Rijksmuseum inspired her to return to painting as a career. Influenced by the light and color of the European Impressionist and Dutch painters, Oriana's hyper-realist style is infused with wit and energy.

I don't get it. This isn't even remotely related to comic art.

Hi Mark. Thanks for your comment. Following the lead of Jeff Singh, I created a gallery that was labelled "Fine Art (Off Topic)" so that viewers would be aware that the contents were not traditional CAF fare. Mea Culpa. The wide, gray line for me has always been where the strictly non-comics work of a person who has also happened to draw comics/illustrations might be best categorized. So the non-comics or comics-related work of Jeffrey Catherine Jones, Jon J Muth, or Barry Windsor-Smith (just to mention some people I also put in this same gallery) doesn't quite fit into the "upload new comic art" command, but we all want to see this 'outside' work that gives us context for the artists' other work. In that sense, I find that seeing the curating decisions made by a CAF member gives me a little interesting perspective on the rest of the collection.

Beautiful painting... that horizon line is hypnotizing! I checked out the link to Oriana's blog & her paintings are fantastic. So incredibly realistic yet retaining a painterly 'quality'. Very inspiring art, thanks for posting dude! :-)

Hi Adam. Thanks for the comments on Oriana's work. I think her seascapes are exactly as you have described them - realistic but with painterly quality. Perfect! Nice to put a comment on this painting, in particular, because it took me a while to warm up to the 50:50 split in the composition, which is an unusual choice for her if you look at some of the others I have. Brian
