Description

I'm not buying much modern art these days, but I really like Chris Samnee. He doesn't seem to sell much of his published work, and when I saw that he was selling a cover from his current run on Captain America (which, by the way, is worth reading), I couldn't help myself.

Chris creates pages by starting with a thumbnail on paper. He then enlarges the thumbnails to 11" x 17" and prints in blue line on bristol. Finally, he pencils and inks over the blue line thumbnails. So this page has blueline, pencils and inks.

As an additional image, I've included the original thumbnails for this cover.

A very nice Cap cover Ron and his nostalgic, retro style was what made me interview Chris for CAF a few years ago. He is smooth. Bravo.

Magnificent! Thanks for the description of his process --- the rough bluelines were puzzling to me, but this makes perfect sense now.

Samnee did some outstanding work on DD and Cap - he feels like a throwback artist and his simper/clearer lines make for emotive images. And his design sense is top notch! Great example you got. Congrats!

Bah, I didn't know you were going after this one, Ron, or I wouldn't have bid you up on it. I agree on Samnee....of all the modern stuff, his work on Cap was of a very small list that spoke to me. This is a great piece from what I feel is a modern iconic take on the character. Congrats!
