DescriptionHarold R. Foster, Prince Valiant. China su cartoncino, cm 87x63.Harold R. Foster was born in Halifax (Canada) on the 16th of August 1892. He moves to the United States with his family in 1906 and at eighteen years old he leaves school to help financially his family. In 1921 he settles down in Chicago to attend the Art Institute first and the National Academy of Design then. Once he finishes his studies he starts working as an illustrator for publishing and advertising and in 1928 he draws his first episode of “Tarzan”, founder of the adventure and sci-fi comic “Buck Rogers”. In 1931 he accepts to work on the Sunday piece of the hero created by Edgar Rice Burroughs but leaves the project giving it to Burne Hogarth in 1937 to spend his time working on his very own comic “Prince Valiant”, brave knight of the Round Table. For a short period starting from April 1944 he combines it with “The Medieval Castle”, a masterpiece of historical-environmental reconstruction. After being helped in the second mid of the 1960s by some assistants (one of these is Wayne Boring, one of the first drawers of “Superman”), at the end of 1971 he entrusts the graphic realization of “Prince Valiant” to John Cullen Murphy, already the author of the boxer “Big Ben Bolt”. He then spends his time working on his texts until his last days. He dies in Florida on the 20th of July 1982. Social/Sharing |

What a great page! Humor, action and several of the main characters including Val and Aleta. Really a perfect example of what made this strip so good.
