I had missed picking up a Mignola Hellboy page for, well, the last 20 years...after a pleasant chat with Mr. Mignola at a local SoCal Con, I made it an objective to close this hole in my collection. When this page showed up at auction, I put in what I thought was a conservative bid so was pretty excited when I won this page - I guess it was meant to be.

That said, this is page 19B from Almost Colossus #1 - I didn't know what "19B" meant but after buying the original comic and not finding the page I was confused. Turns out that Mike added a few pages to the story when the TPB was published on August 5, 1998 - so this page is in the TPB (vol. 3 "The Chained Coffin and Others") and in the Digital version as well. Thanks to Eric DLS and KirbyJack from the CGC boards to help figure this out. I added an image with Mike's explanation from the TPB that KirbyJack posted and I added an additional color image of the page as published.

Long story there but I went after this page because it is a Hellboy battle page and also features Kate Corrigan. Finally, I added an additional image of the small pencil drawing that is in the wide right border that doesn't fit on my scanner...and then a picture of Mr. Mignola with the page from a visit to LA ComicArt Con.

A perfect Hellboy moment. He's swarmed by monsters clawing and grabbing, and he's asking about Kate. For good reason, too...Yikes! This is awesomely dark and so well rendered, with Hellboy and Kate fighting monsters. Perfect. Big congrats on completing the hunt!
