Description

I have always loved this cover, from the first time I saw it. McNiven is a master of realistic utilization and consequence, as seen with his "battle damaged" approach to many famous characters. Here, the "fastball special" is reimagined in a way that totally makes sense. Sue Storm's powers are by definition very difficult to portray on paper, but the use of negative space and cast shadows sells this one for me. It's a combination of fine pen work and meticulous pencil shading.

The concept is fantastic and the execution level is expert! 2005 would have been within the first year McNiven was at Marvel and he made a big impression here, in Ultimate Secret, New Avengers, and begin Civil War a year later!
