DescriptionThe first comic book I bought was at age 9 from a mom and pops store several blocks from my home. I remember seeing the rack of comics but always passed them over for snacks. Also at 20 cents, it took a lot of sacrifice to save up for a comic but I had the money one day, looked at the bunch of covers and picked up one that intrigued me. It had several superheroes on it that were unfamiliar but they were colorful and someone in the shadows above seemed to be a menace for them.I scurried home to read it and the first page opened initially to mystery. A man in shadows seemed to be either waiting for someone or running from someone. Then below, the character from the cover came out in full light, a hooded bad guy (I thought at the moment) toting a spear, accompanied by a large, gray wolf. In the pages thereafter I was literally barraged by a host of new faces, and not simply duking it out with witty catchphrases but trying to come to a compromise about how to tackle two problems and then suddenly inconvenienced with a third. The issue involved mystery, loyalty, revenge, racism, compromise, justice, teamwork and the supernatural. I didn’t realize it at the time but at 20 cents, it was a bargain. Since that day, I had not only been rewarded with a lifetime of enjoyment from reading comics but was inspired enough to go into the art field and to do some work in animation and other art-related projects. If ever I had a grail page, this one is it. When John Buscema was alive I was giving heavy consideration to ask him to do this page as a commission but I procrastinated and then he sadly passed on. I thought that would be my only chance to own at least a part of what I deemed to be my “grail” piece. I was able to attain it at ebay a couple years ago and that’s another story. As you can tell, this page is in good hands. Social/Sharing |

It’s always nice to see a fellow collector post a page with such sentimental value. Congratulations on acquiring your Grail!
