DescriptionI recently became smitten with a painting of this scene by NC Wyeth. A powerful image, it mesmerized me as soon as I saw it.Soon after, I got to talking with Tim about the painting and he asked me if I knew the story behind the scene. While I have always loved the Robin Hood legend, I had never actually read about Robin's last days. As the story goes, weak and on the verge of death, Robin asked Little John to hand him his bow. He told him he would fire one final arrow out the window, and wherever it landed was where he was to be buried. I can't believe I had never heard that story before. It's such a fitting ending for the character. Knowing that Tim had an appreciation for Wyeth and the Robin Hood legend, I asked him to draw his rendition of Robin's last act. This magnificent drawing is what he came up with. I could NOT be more thrilled with this piece. Everything about it blows me away, and I put it on par, if not surpassing any commission Tim has ever done. It's such a wonderful composition, and use of lighting. I love that it's so clearly Tim, yet the way he lit the piece is inspired by Wyeth Little John in darkness). I also appreciate that, while Wyeth's version depicts Robin as frail and truly at end of life, Tim puts one last moment of fire and determination in Robin's eyes. Neither is right or wrong, but it makes for a fascinating contrast and gives insight into how each artist saw that moment. Social/Sharing |

How the hell could you not know that story?? In light of your ignorance I don't think you deserve this wonderful piece by Tim.

Love the story behind this commission ( I hadn't heard it either). Tim did an amazing job with it.

Such a great piece. I knew what it was right away. I am a big fan of Robin Hood. Loved Errol Flynn's Robin Hood, I used to watch it all the time. I remeber reading Howard Pyle's Robin Hood for the first. The ending had me in tears. Great piece!
