Description

Franklin Booth, illustration for the story "The New Strong Wine of Spring,” by Katherine Brown. The title is "Isabel! What on Earth--" from Everybody's Magazine (and other periodicals), July 1907. Franklin Booth never ceases to amaze. Check out the line work on the man's coat and the woman's dress -- how does Booth draw lines that thin, that closely together, of that length (drawing freehand, with pens from the early 20th century, without ink blots or stains)? Seems impossible, but that's why Booth is the master. While Booth is generally known for his ethereal subject matter, he also drew darker illustrations like this one for magazine stories. Thank you Agaguk Tremblay for hunting down the story that this appeared in!
