Hal Foster's
Prince Valiant is a classic strip and one of the premiere inspirations for those who do adventure comics. The artistic duties are now in the hands of Northern California's
Thomas Yeates and I'm thrilled and happy for him. At
Big Wow ComicFest this year, I was eager to see his offerings. I chose this one because I liked the expressions on Val and Sir Gawain and the location. While touring San Francisco's Civil War era Fort Point, the guide explained how spiral stairs favored the typical right-handed defender. They could keep their footing on the wide part of the stair while fighting their enemy trying to come up. On this example, it turns out San Jose native
Brent Anderson helped out. "Tightening up pencils" in his words. Another admired creator, Mark Schultz continues to write the strip as he did for Gary Gianni. This art is drawn on 18x24 art board.
